The Importance of Giving Back

There are many direct and indirect benefits to giving back to your community. Perhaps one of the best things, is the feeling you get when you do it.

That feeling is carried over into how you approach the rest of your day or your week. That feeling will influence your conversations and interactions. That feeling will spread like a virus throughout your professional and social circles. And you can be Patient Zero.

That is the true benefit to giving back.

It is also why we encourage a culture of giving back here at Now IT Works. If kindness wasn’t important, then why are there a million cliches about it? You can probably rattle a dozen of them off the top of your head: ‘kindness counts’, ‘it takes a village’, ‘instead of building a bigger fence, build a bigger table’. The list is probably endless.

Giving back is more than just helping an organization. It’s about setting an example to your friends, family and the community that you live in. Violence may beget more violence, but philanthropy also begets more philanthropy. Fred Rogers famously recalled a conversation he had with his mother, after seeing something scary on the news, that concluded with “…always look for the helpers. If you look for the helpers, you will know there is hope.”

This is a culture that we have tried very hard to cultivate at Now IT Works. Giving back is at the heart of what we do. It’s why we donate time and resources to the Lutz Children’s Museum every month, for more than a decade. In the new year, we are hoping to encourage even more service among our employees with simple ideas that they can take to their communities as well!

In this midst of the holiday season, now is the perfect time to dedicate yourself to being Patient Zero and spreading the virus of kindness. If you would like to get involved in a community service project with Now IT Works, please email Amie Meacham for more information.
